How Owngevity scores work
The Owngevity Score is an editorial summary of how well a product category or product is positioned for a long, useful service life. It is not a laboratory certification and it does not promise a specific lifespan.
What we consider
- Typical service life and documented lifespan ranges
- Durability and known failure points
- Repairability and access to replacement parts
- How strongly maintenance can influence useful life
- Risk of technical or ecosystem obsolescence where relevant
Research standards
Where possible, guides use manufacturer documentation, standards, government or institutional information, academic research, repair documentation and other authoritative sources. Estimates are presented as ranges when a precise number would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.
Keeping information current
Articles can carry a research review date. Important lifespan and repairability assumptions should be revisited as product designs, parts policies and regulations change.
